MAIN PURPOSE:

To be responsible for the day to day management of staff within a 24 hour operation ensuring that health and safety, quality and production targets are met.

REPORTS TO:

Shift Production Manager

MAIN DUTIES:

1. GENERAL
a. To oversee and co-ordinate all planned production activities within the operational function of the business and to provide support to the Shift Production Manager and staff.
b. Work without supervision in the best interests of the company.
c. Attend meetings and training courses as required.
d. Follow company procedures.
e. Any other duties which might reasonably be requested in association with this role in order to meet the needs of the business
f. Maintain departmental GMP and Quality standards.

2. HEALTH & SAFETY
a. Ensure all staff adhere to EPC’s Health & Safety Policies & Procedures at all times.
b. Maintain a safe working environment and to promote a positive and successful health and safety culture.
c. Reports and assists in incident and accident investigations.
d. Ensure risk assessments are carried out, monitored and updated as required.
e. Follows and manages safe systems of work.
f. Continuously challenging others to work in a safe and responsible manner.
g. Carry out duties as per health and safety guidelines
h. Actively promotes and encourages reporting of accidents, incidents and hazards.
i. Ensure return to work and self-certification assessment is completed before staff return to normal duties.

3. PRODUCTION
a. To take ownership and accountability for production operations within the relevant working areas.
b. To provide direction and support to attain plant performance and efficiencies.
c. To ensure planned targets are met and to priorities production activities.
d. Supervise staff to ensure duties are carried out in a timely and safe manner.
e. Ensure all documentation is accurately completed and maintained and including the printing of production paperwork where necessary.
f. Be responsible for all labour requirements of the relevant areas and to escalate any shortfalls.
g. Work closely with other departments to ensure the daily plan is met and any issues escalated accordingly along with accurate downtime recording.
h. Understand upstream and downstream processes and the impact on cost, labour and equipment from decision making.
i. Carry out team briefs and communicate effectively.
j. Ensure shift handovers are performed in a constructive and timely manner.
k. Support and drive a right first time culture by assisting in investigating root causes and proposing preventative actions with the support of the Shift Production Manager.
l. Deputise for the Shift Production Manager in their absence.
m. Attend and drive the SIC board meetings to manage any potential challenges and highlight opportunities.
n. Liaise regularly with engineering team to assist with scheduled maintenance (autonomous maintenance)

5. PERSONNEL
a. Help develop, coach and monitor the performance of team members to support their achievement of production, team development and training objectives.
b. Ensure the team are assigned appropriate duties enabling continuous and smooth production to the highest standards
a. Ensure good timekeeping of the team including at the start and end of the shift and that all breaks are taken within the agreed times.
b. Advise the Shift Manager or HR of any team non- attendance, grievances, accidents in the work place etc.
c. Ensure that there are good inter departmental working relationships within the team as well as other departments.
d. Be a self-motivated person and encourage the Production team to use their initiative and take responsibility in making decisions concerning product made daily.
e. Help create an environment of continuous improvement within the team, where all team members feel a sense of responsibility for improving overall team performance and each team member feels important.

 

4. DESPATCH
a. Ensure direct and indirect reports keep the storage areas clean and tidy and ensure that product is stored in the correct place.
b. Ensure there is the right support in place to enable the finished production to be booked out correctly and any variances escalated and investigated fully.
c. Ensure work orders relevant to the line are closed in a timely manner any issues escalated and followed up.
