Colleagues from across The Billington Group recently came together for the Annual STAR Team Conference, a key moment to step back, reflect and shape the future of how we manage Environment, Health & Safety across the Group.
The focus of the day was clear: to begin building a long-term strategy that will guide our approach over the next 10 years.
Shaping the STAR strategy
Led by Jeff Roycroft, EHS & Risk Director, the session brought together representatives from across the business to collaborate on what will become our Group-wide STAR strategy.
Throughout the day, teams worked through a series of structured exercises, including SWOT and context analysis, to understand where we are today and where we need to be in the future.
The aim is to define five clear strategic pillars that will shape our focus and priorities in the years ahead.
To support this process, the Group was joined by Regina Hadar, European EHS Manager at Altro, who facilitated the session and brought valuable external insight and expertise.
A collaborative approach
A key theme of the day was collaboration, bringing together EHS specialists and operational leaders to ensure the strategy reflects the realities of the business.
Aaron Roberts, Group EHS Compliance Lead, highlighted the importance of this approach:
“It’s really good to have everybody here today working on strategy for health, safety and environment for the whole Group. We’ve got the EHS team as well as managers all working collaboratively so we can build a strong strategy for everyone at The Billington Group. It’s important that we’re all involved in shaping how we operate in the future and continuing to create a safer environment for everybody.”
From strategy to action
Once the STAR strategy is finalised, it will be presented to the Board for approval before being rolled out across the Group.
Each business will then take the Group framework and apply it in a way that works for their operations, ensuring a consistent approach while recognising the needs of different sites and teams.

The STAR Team Conference marks an important step in strengthening our long-term approach to safety, health and environment.
